About Roy Smith, PhD:
Dr. Roy Smith is Scientific Advisor, Endocrine Science of Lumos Pharma. He has more than fifty years of academic and industrial research experience focused on drug discovery with over 300 peer-reviewed publications and issued patents. Upon receiving his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Queen Mary College, London University, UK., Roy crossed the pond to take a position as Research Associate at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn. He then joined the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), Houston Texas to participate in pioneering research on the molecular mechanisms of steroid hormone action, and to direct fellowship training for physicians seeking board certification in reproductive physiology. Dr. Smith was subsequently recruited to Merck Research Labs and became Vice President of Biochemistry and Physiology. During his tenure at Merck and Co. he led Drug Discovery research focused on metabolic and endocrine disorders, which amongst other breakthroughs led to the identification and development of LUM-201.
Before becoming an Advisor for Lumos Pharma, Dr. Smith was Professor and founding Chair of Metabolism and Aging at the Scripps Research Institute and prior to that, Director of the Huffington Center on Aging and Professor in the Department of Cellular Biology and Department of Medicine at BCM. Beyond his work with Lumos Pharma, Dr. Smith is Professor Emeritus in the Dept of Molecular Medicine at the Scripps Research Institute.
